Pouting Skills

Nicole showed off her wicked pouting skills on the first night of our Selway Trip. She wanted me to go sit in the camper and read a book while she did the same. I'm all for some good book reading and I read a lot while we're camping, but it was our first night there. I didn't want to look completely anti-social! So the answer was no. She didn't like that answer.

Boy, can she stick that lip out. What a pro! I tried to match her skill. . . . .

I like her technique much better. I may have to work on that in the mirror. Or not.

I may not be as talented at the pout, but at least I can keep a straight face!! Kinda.

Those Pesky Bugs

Our Selway trip was one big ball o' fun. Until the sun went down and the bugs joined our party. They must've been tiny, 'cause I never actually saw any bugs, but boy, did I feel them! The only time they didn't bother me was by the campfire which was nice. I came away without any noticable bug bites, but poor Nicole was covered with them!
This is Nicole and Chaye's method of avoiding the bugs! I'd rather just sit close to the fire.

Hors d'oeuvre, Anyone?

Last weekend was our yearly August Selway trip with a group fondly known as the "Yeehaw Gang." Don't ask me where the name comes from. Not sure. Except that they are known to whoop it up on occasion! There is a huge grassy area along the river that someone reserves every year. It's already reserved for the first week in August next year. We'll also go over Labor Day weekend. It's fun. Lots of beach time, visiting, floating the river, book reading, eating, sitting by the fire, eating. The first night we were there just happened to be hors d'oevre night. Lots of yummy, high fat foods to graze on. They also got out the blender (a VitaMix to be exact!) and spread the cheer with yummy alcoholic drinks for the adults and smoothies for the kids. It's all about roughing it.

There was music playing and a few people started dancing. Not to be left out, Morgan danced with his favorite little girl, Elise.

Morgan has a soft spot for Elise. A couple years ago on this Selway trip, he announced out the blue that he was going to marry her someday. That was a tad shocking. Don't know where he got that idea, but he's stuck with it ever since. Poor boy, only gets to see his fiancee a couple times a year since Elise lives in Richland, Washington, but that doesn't seem deter him.

I love this picture (thanks, Leah--I stole it from Facebook!). Smiling into each other's eyes, they sure seem to like each other! They were dancing awfully close here. His "father-in-law" didn't like it!

Sperm Whales

You might want to keep your options open for the last two weekends in August. Sandpoint will be hosting an interesting production.
A classmate at my 20th reunion alerted me to this. I tried to Google it to find out what it might be about. No luck. Her thought was perhaps it is a musical about Sperm Whales. I'm hoping. I may never know. If anyone out there attends, please keep me posted.

Sandpoint City Beach

Sandpoint has an awesome beach. The park takes up 18 acres and was donated to the city by Pacific Railroad (thanks, Google!). The final reunion event was a picnic at the beach and kids were invited. Nicole was especially excited to see this floating dock. You can't see her very well, but that's her jumping off the dock in the picture.
This is new. There was not a statue of liberty in Sandpoint when I was a kid. Not sure why there is now. It was placed at the end of a long concrete dock in memory of someone. She must've had a soft spot for old lady liberty. It was good because the odds of us taking our kids to see the real deal are pretty slim. At least they've seen the Sandpoint replica. So, if you ever make it to Sandpoint, don't miss out on the beach. Visiting the lady in green is optional.

Cabin in the Woods

Amy, from yesterday's horse post, has a beautiful "hunting cabin" about 20 minutes from Sandpoint. We stayed in it last time we were there. It was perfect for this visit because mom volunteered to come hang out with the kids while we went to the reunion events. God bless that woman.

It's really not a cabin so much as a beautiful two-story home. Amy's daughter calls it a bungalow. They own it in partnership with a couple uncles and Amy's hubby Devon happens to build houses, so this is what he built. . . Two stories. Two decks. Too nice.

The view from the upper-story deck.

It's got a propane generator and three bedrooms. It's beautifully appointed. I think I might move in. I do take issue with the mosquitoes, however. I wish Amy would do something about the mosquitoes.
